Friday, June 29: Casper, Wy to Alliance, Nea short drive today, through hot and scrubby and flat... no longer very pretty here. started to see THE CORN. i imagine there will be a lot more of that before i get home. I AM READY. Broke 100 degrees today, and nebraska is featureless, starkly bright, with hot winds whipping everything. It looks prosperous, though; nice little houses, new trucks, every inch of land covered with bright green crops, new-looking cargo trains filled with grain and coal. so why am i in alliance? a little town in the middle of a big nothing? because this is where Carhenge is located, and I have wanted to see Carhenge for many years. There's also an active drive-in theater here, but I was sorry to find that it's closed this season. Felt lazy this afternoon, so I just found a local pizza place (not too bad... and a nice change from the chinese i've been relying on here in the land of the dead animal flesh eaters) and hung around the hotel all afternoon. tomorrow is a big day.... Carhenge, Mount Rushmore, and possibly the Devil's Tower if there's time. 3 comments
Enjoyed the pictures of Hells Half Acre.
Someone dropped of another skull in our skull pile. I thought that was odd but we were happy to have someone add to our display. The canyon looks great with the snow covering some of the walls but we are eager to see summer.
